From my experience, I firstly avoid any BROAD keywords out there, as they are very vague and do not really help me identify the niche: Health, weight loss, make money are all examples of keywords whose traffic data (which is huge) is something I would never rely on to make a site out of.

Just curious, how much time would you say it would take the average person who has a decent understanding of how to do much of what you covered to get through all of these steps? Just a rough estimate. And how long, again, on average, after doing all of this would it take before that person starts seeing $500/month in a medium competitive niche – one that you would consider being pretty ideal?

Hi Tim – I’m usually 50/50 on research. I think it’s easy to spend too much time researching and not enough time working. I’ve generally figured it out as I’ve gone along, but I can see the argument for researching upfront. I think if you start with a broad enough niche then you can get away with less research – I’m constantly surprised by what works/what doesn’t work in content marketing… the same goes for niches that people make money in!
